On Saturday night the Thunderbirds battled the Pioneers from Miles City Community College for first place in the north sub-region. Early on in the contest the 6’9 freshman from Paris, France found his groove and came out the gate to score 11 of the T-birds first 15 points, including a 3-pointer and a two-handed slam for a 15-11 lead. The T-Birds built a 23 point lead in the game using a balanced attack.  Darrious Curry 9 points and 7 rebounds and Dominique Lee 10 points and 5 rebounds, Tyler Larson added 8 points.
Defensively, Casper took Miles out of their game in the first half by slowing the pace down and holding them to 38% from the floor and 0/6 from three. Defense was the name of the game for the Birds. Getting key stops and several stops in a row, the lead eventually grew to 46-30 at the half.
In the 2nd half, the game was paced by Jerrold Brooks who ended with 14 points and came up with some big shots to end a few Miles City runs.  Miles hit a 3 at the buzzer to make the final score 81-74. The Thunderbirds now (18-6, 9-3 North) with another home game this Wednesday against the Trappers of Northwest Wyoming College. Tip is at 7:30 p.m. following the women who start at 5:30.
