Remi Dibo

Casper College and Joel Davidson are happy to announce the signing of Remi Dibo from Paris, France.  The French native comes to Casper via Mountain State Academy in Beckley, WV.  Originally Dibo had committed to play for the University of Kentucky in the spring of 2009.  The 6’9 235 pound forward has a tremendous skill set for being his size.  “He is extremely athletic for being 6’9-6’10 but what is even more scary, he is far more talented then he is a good athlete” Davidson mentioned of his new signee.

The big, talented forward is a very good shooter and has the ability to put the ball on the floor and either finish above the rim or shoot it off the dribble going both directions. Dibo is a match up problem because he can play inside and out. He can power over smaller defenders as well. He has great touch and passes over or around opponents and is an excellent passer as well.

Last season at Mountain State Academy, Remi averaged 19 ppg and 8 rebounds a contest for the Falcons.  He had several good outings at the prep school but most notably against national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy while being ranked #3 in the country at the time by ESPN.com.  With time winding down, Dibo banked in a long jumper from the top of the key to propel No. 6 Mountain State past No. 3 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) in the opening round of the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational.

“We are very fortunate to have a great young man such as Remi and happy he is a great talent.” Said Head Coach Joel Davidson.  “Our staff is working with Remi every day in the weight room and on the floor with individual work to tighten up his game to play at the highest level.”  Currently Remi is receiving interest from Kentucky, Auburn, Washington, Baylor, Utah, Virginia Commonwealth, and many others.

The highly touted Paris, France native is also a dual citizen of the Ivory Coast and played on their Junior National team last summer. He will play for the Casper College Thunderbirds in 2011-2012 season.  Joel Davidson expects big things from his new signee.  Casper College will get to see an elite talent help them make a run at “Hutch” next season.

Dominique Lee

Joel Davidson and staff announce the signing of University of Utah transfer, Dominique Lee, to the Casper College Thunderbird program on Monday.  Dominique will join a familiar face in Casper as his twin brother, Demetrius Lee, played his freshman year for Coach Davidson and will be returning for his sophomore season.  Last season at Utah, Dominique red-shirted and practiced with Utah, so he will technically be coming in as a freshman for the T-Birds next season. Before choosing the University of Utah, he was recruited by St. Mary’s, Michigan, South Florida, Nebraska, San Francisco, Portland, UC-Santa Barbara, Pacific, and Santa Clara.

The 6’5 210 pound wing is ultra-athletic and is considered to be one of the most athletic players not only at the junior college ranks, but also at the Division I level. With a tough and strong frame, Lee excels in transition while having the ability to finish above the rim. He has had the chance to really work on some aspects of his game this past season with the Utes, and is a considerably better player on the perimeter offensively than he was a year ago.

As a senior, Lee averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game, and earned first-team All-Bay Shore Athletic League, and first-team All-Metro choice (Bay Area), and he was nominated for McDonalds All-America honors. Dominique’s junior year, he scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds per game, while being ranked among the top 10 upperclassmen in the state of California. He was named first-team All-Bay Shore Athletic League, and second-team All-Metro choice (Bay Area). His reputation as a fierce, physical player and his commitment to the defensive end of the floor will be a huge component for the T-bird’s success this coming season.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to have Dominique join our program. We are especially happy for him and his twin brother, Demetrius, to have the chance to play together again at the collegiate level.” Davidson said about the signing of this explosive talent.  “To find someone of Dominique’s athleticism and talent at the JUCO level is very rare and we are extremely lucky to have found that.”

Joel Davidson has signed four players up to this point and really likes what the staff has been able to find through the recruiting process for what he hopes to be one of the most memorable seasons for T-Bird fans than they have had in quite sometime.  “Our staff has recruited the Lee twins from early on and did a quality job.”  Davidson said. “We expect Dominique to have a huge impact on our program this coming season.”

Brandan Walton

The 6'2 185 sophomore guard out of Compton, CA has given a verbal commitment to play basketball at North Texas for the 2011-2012 season.  Walton averaged 11.3 points per game for the Thunderbirds last season as a freshman, while he averaged 20 points in three regional tournament games and hit 5 three pointers in one game.  The sharp shooter drew interest from Wyoming, Boise St, Wichita St, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Portland St, Sacramento State, Cal-State Northridge as well as San Jose State.  This past July, Brandan was invited to the top 120 junior college showcase in Tulsa which featured the top players in the country at the junior college level.

North Texas has been coming off a couple great years of success for their men's basketball program.  The "Mean Green" captured its second Sun Belt Championship with a 66-63 victory over Troy in the tournament finals.  North Texas had a school and conference record four players named to all-conference teams as well as 24 wins on the year.  Walton will be joining a team who has seen recent exposure to the NCAA tournament and with the Casper College guard; they look to get there again!

Darrious Curry

The Casper College Men’s Basketball staff has struck gold once again for the class of 2011-2012 with quite possibly one of the most highly touted players to ever wear a Casper College uniform! The Thunderbirds welcome West Virginia University transfer, Darrious Curry, to the program. Originally from Houston, TX, this 6’7” wing is tremendously gifted offensively.  With a 6’10” wingspan, the lefty from “The Lone Star State” is one of the best pure shooters in the country.

Curry joined the program for the spring semester after he transferred from West Virginia. Back in 2009, this young man signed a national letter of intent to University of Texas El Paso, but due to a sudden coaching change, he re-opened his recruitment and then signed on with West Virginia University.  Coach Joel Davidson says this about Darrious, “We are extremely happy and lucky to have a player of Darrious’s caliber joining our program. He is a very gifted athlete, shooter, and scorer.” Currently, Darrious is being targeted by several outstanding Division I universities such as, Oregon State, Texas, Gonzaga, Kansas, Auburn, Southern Mississippi, and Nebraska.

Playing at Stratford High School in Sugarland, TX, Curry earned first-team all-district honors three consecutive years, and averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists his senior season. He was among 2,000 high school boys and girls named as McDonald's All-America finalists. Curry played his first three years of high school basketball at Houston's Elsik High, where he averaged 10 points per game as a freshman, 20 points per game as a sophomore, and 15 points per game as a junior.

“Our staff did a tremendous job in recruiting Darrious and he was equally as excited about making the jump to Casper College.” Davidson said about the signing of Curry.  This spring, Coach Russell and Darrious have been working tremendously hard on the floor and in the weight room to help this new T-Bird become a complete, high-major, Division I basketball player, so he can get back to where he belongs.  “We could not be happier about bringing Darrious to Casper.  He is the type of player who can take this program to the next level” said Davidson.  “One thing you will notice about Darrious other than his talent, is that he is an unbelievably good kid!”

Dominique Brooks

Joel Davidson has signed his first recruit of the 2011-2012 season in Dominique Brooks from Seattle, Washington.  Brooks, a transfer from Yavapai College in Arizona averaged 12 points per game and four assists a contest for the roughriders last season.  The 6’1 185 pound pure point guard is exactly what coach Joel Davidson was aiming for to find in another point guard to run the show.  “He brings all the great qualities and intangibles of a high level point guard,” Davidson said of Dominique.  “Dominique can shoot it well from beyond the arch as well as off the dribble, we are very excited about him joining our program.”

The Seattle native committed to the University of Miami out of prep school where he attended God’s Academy in Texas.  Since then, he has opened his recruitment back up for the division 1 level and is now hearing from Wichita State, Arizona State, Hawaii, Kent State, Buffalo, Washington State, Houston, Idaho State, Central Michigan, and Weber State.  Davidson really likes the way Brooks can run a team, make great decisions with the ball in his hand, as well as his ability to make his teammates better.

The Thunderbirds will likely fill three more scholarships this spring and summer to round out the 2011-2012 recruiting class.  Davidson started off with a very high caliber signee in the Yavapai transfer (Brooks) who was also being recruited at the Junior College level by Trinity Valley CC, Midland, Hutchinson CC, North Idaho, Sheridan, and Indian Hills CC.
