The Casper College Thunderbirds took their talents on the road this weekend in Sterling, Colorado a little short-handed. With Daniel Carlin, the 6’10 freshman post from Australia not making the trip due to the flu and Remi Dibo and Darrious Curry ill, the T-birds were not going to be as deep up front. Friday night facing Northeastern Junior College for the second time this year and at their place would present some challenges. Changing up the speed and picking up defensively, would get Joel Davidson and company over the hump. Tyler Larson brought his “A” game and scored 20 points on the night as well as Denzel Douglas with 13 and Austin KoFoed with 10. The Birds came away with a solid win against a good NJC basketball team 80-70.
A quick turnaround game for the birds as they played the late one last night (7:30) and on Saturday against North Platte CC at 3:30. Everyone was connecting on all cylinders as the Birds jumped on the Knights early in the contest to go up 54-27 at the half. Four players scoring in double figures with Cobi Eskew (18), Remi Dibo (14), Darrious Curry (12), and Austin KoFoed (10). It also was the first appearance from Dominique Lee from Berkeley, CA (Univ. of Utah Transfer) as he played 13 minutes with 3 points and 2 blocks and 2 rebounds. It was a great team effort. Casper College had 26 assists while connecting on 32 field goal makes for the game. The pressure was too much for North Platte to handle as the Birds forced 26 turnovers with their full court pressure.
The Thunderbirds improve to 8-2 on the year and face Western Wyoming on Wednesday (Dec. 7th) and also Saturday (Dec. 10th) against Central Wyoming in Riverton, WY. Both games will be at 7:30 p.m.
